Library fines

Answer

Fines are charged for items that are returned late.

For 3 week and 1 week loans, fines are only charged for items that have been requested by other library users. Once requested, these items cannot be renewed and must be returned by the due date. Otherwise, they will be renewed automatically.

1 day loans and Short Loan Collection/2 hour loans cannot be renewed.

Fine rates are:

  • 3 week loans - 50p per day
  • 1 week loans - 50p per day
  • 1 day loans - £5 per day
  • Short Loan Collection/2 hour loans - 50p per hour or part-hour

Fines are also charged at 50p per day for overdue interlibrary loans.

You can check for fines on your account by logging into your library account and clicking on 'Messages and charges'.

You can pay your fines:

  • At the library ground floor desk by card
  • By calling 020 3926 1400 to pay by card. Please have your Library/ID card number to hand

It is not possible to pay fines online. We cannot take cash payments.
