How can I get books and articles from other libraries?

Answer

If an item you need is not held in Birkbeck Library, you may still be able to access it by visiting another library or by requesting it via our interlibrary loan service or you may be able to find it online.

Information about visiting and joining other libraries, including Senate House Library, is on our website.

SCONUL access is a reciprocal scheme which allows many university library users to borrow or use books and journals at other libraries which are members. The scheme covers most of the university libraries in the UK and Ireland.

Use our interlibrary loan service to ask for books, copies of book chapters and journal articles that are not available at Birkbeck:

  • First, check that the item you want isn't available from Birkbeck on the library catalogue. Use the 'Discover' tab for articles.
  • Place an interlibrary loan order (just give us the details of the item you need and we'll find it for you).

Use the Open Access Button to find free articles and research.

See our Free access to online resources guide that highlights some of the free resources available.
